Kilchoman 100% Islay 12th Edition (50%)

De Kilchoman 100% Islay 12th Edition is een lichter geturfde Islay single malt van de Kilchoman distilleerderij. Met 20 PPM is dit een jaarlijks terugkerende release en deze 2022 bottling is inmiddels de twaalfde. Deze editie komt uit vaten van 2011, 2012 en 2013 en is dus om en nabij (tenminste) net geen 9 jaar oud. Waar er in de eerste jaren alleen bourbon vaten gebruikt werden is dat sinds 2020 anders en ook in 2022 bij de 12e release zijn er weer sherry vaten gebruikt. De 12th Edition is gemaakt van 6 Oloroso sherry butts en 29 bourbon barrels. Goed voor 12.500 flessen die in 2022 gebotteld zijn op 50%.

Official tasting notes:

Nose: Elegant, sweet peat smoke, followed by waves of citrus and honey, finishing with notes of vanilla and salted caramel.

Palate: A Bourbon-driven 100% Islay brings an initial malt-driven profile followed by green fruits; apple and pear. Light spice, raisin and toffee are present towards the finish.

Finish: Peat smoke returns and remains on the palate. The oily texture of this 100% Islay allows for a creamy profile balanced with toffee and caramelised sugar.
